Well, today was excellent.
Actually, today was pretty hectic and I was insanely tired, but the evening was so awesome that everything else pales in comparison.
Observation of the day: The lady who lives in the bathroom gets very dressed up before she goes home. Yesterday I walked in at the end of the day and she was wearing a bright pink outfit and was doing her makeup in the mirror. She actually seems pretty vain. Every time I go in there she is looking at herself in the mirror and not paying attention to anything else. Not at all like the woman who lived in the bathroom last time I came. She would sit on the floor and pick at her feet which was slightly gross. But she did always hand me paper towels to wipe my hands and new bathroom lady definitely does not.
I literally can't even remember what happened today. This was one of the early days where I had to be at work at 8:00 a.m. After getting home at 10:30 p.m. last night and staying up to write my blog and FaceTime with my parents, I once again did not get much sleep at all. Sigh. I guess I'll sleep when I'm back in America.
Supriya has been planning this Dilli Haat excursion we took since Tuesday. I am so unbelievably blessed to have coworkers like her and all the others who joined us. I could not believe how many of them chose to come completely out of their way to hang out.
Shweta, Sups, and I took the office cab into Delhi while the others took the metro. The metro kids were all standing in from of a stand of stuffed elephants when we walked in and Aditi was immediately like "look what we found" which is so cute. They know how much I love those little elephants and also how much i like to buy elephant-themed items for my niece.
Once there, everyone basically followed me around and took pictures and we all chatted. I remember Katie telling me that Priyanka was a master shopper and Nidhi definitely told me that Aditi was, but I could never have guessed how amazing they would be in action. Every scarf I bought was talked down from ₹750–₹1,300 to ₹500. I got shoes for ₹300 and the elephants for ₹750. It was seriously amazing. I would literally just stand there staring while they yelled at the guys in Hindi.
Only one of the vendors would not budge on his price. His wraps were beautiful but he was asking a hefty price and could not be argued down. At one point he started getting rude and said something along the lines of "Do you know what silk is? Do you know where it comes from?" Obviously I had no clue what he was saying the entire time, but Aditi and Priyanka told me after we walked away. I don't think he knew who he was dealing with.
Once my shopping bug was satisfied, the group went to get food. They have stands with food from every state in India, but the team apparently loves Momo which has food from the state of Arunachai. I was warned by at least five people not to eat at Dilli Haat. Its likely that it wouldn't sit well with me and since I have a very full weekend ahead, getting sick is not really part of the plan.
Don't worry, I ate an entire pizza when I got home.
After leaving, Sups and I took a cab back to Gurgaon. Such a wonderful evening to round out a great week with my lovely coworkers. Can't wait for Neemerana tomorrow. But for now, I will enjoy the party music outside my window.
