Jooties Make Me Happy

This morning was much the same as yesterday: woke up, checked e-mail, went to the gym, got ready for work, went to breakfast, went to work. Wheeeee!

For the third day in a row I had fresh squeezed orange juice with breakfast. I know that I'm supposed to avoid fresh fruits and vegetables, but this kind of seemed ok, right? I feel like I'm not being as cautious as last time. Last time I didn't get sick, but I was über paranoid and wore bug spray every day because I was scared of getting malaria. Now I'm wearing perfume instead of bug spray and basically eating whatever I feel like. I even had ice in my drink tonight! Watch out, I'm going crazy over here.

Anyway, once again I had the same waiter this morning for breakfast. I can't figure out if he's coming to me because I'm sitting in his section each morning (I never have the same seat) or if maybe this is so he can get a tip at the end of my trip? I mean, it will definitely make tipping a lot easier. And he is really earning his tip! When I sit down, he immediately brings me a small cappuccino and orange juice. Once my breakfast arrives, he brings me a large cappuccino. And then, once I'm ready to leave, he brings me a cappuccino in a takeaway cup. He has clearly learned how much I love my caffeine!

One thing I've noticed is that there are a lot of Americans here at the Gurgaon Marriott—some on business and some here for pleasure. I can totally understand the people who are here on business since there are so many major companies in Gurgaon. However, I'm a little surprised that there are people here for pleasure. I would assume that people would stay in Delhi verus Gurgaon since Delhi has so many amazing sights and is right between Jaipur and Agra. Maybe they are here for Kingdom of Dreams? I am still dying to go there myself.

Side note: Vanesh told me that a new highway was built between here and Agra and that the drive is now 2.5 hours instead of 5 hours. What the crap?! That drive was so harsh. I would have loved the shorter version!

Vanesh was out of town for a family wedding, so I had a new driver. My driver today did not speak much. Well, at all. He didn't speak at all besides to ask me if I was going to CEB. He really just said "CEB?" Anyway, I'm kind of glad he wasn't paying attention to me, because I totally spilled my takeaway cappuccino on myself in the back seat of the cab. All over my white shirt which I got in India last time, so it's basically irreplaceable. Apparently I'm still just as clumsy here in India as I am in the US. Good to know.

Non-speaking driver took a weird way to work. I was not as worried about kidnapping as I was last time. Then, of course, I started wondering if Suresh had informants still in Manjeets' cab company and begin to imagine that he might be planning to strike out three years later. Awesome. I managed to completely freak myself out by creating an entire scenario in my head about how Suresh was going to exact revenge on me. Terrifying.

Work today was fine. Nothing too exciting to report. Today for lunch I had…wait for it…Dominos Pizza! I know, earthstatteringly exciting. Samira was very disappointed in my food choice, but Sups and I wanted pizza, so pizza we had! Plus it's easy on the stomach and I need to be careful! I refuse to get sick while I'm having so much fun.

Apparently some time this afternoon there was an earthquake in Pakistan with tremors felt in Delhi/Gurgaon. I felt nothing, but some sort of CNN alert came up and Samira stood up and said "See! I told you! We should run away and go home!" She's been a bit freaked out about earthquakes and, well, really everything, since I've been in the office. I officially found someone more dramatic than me! Amazing!

After work, Nidhi took me shopping for jooties. In under 30 minutes I managed to pick out and pay for seven pairs of shoes. Yes, seven. And that was me being conservative. This place was like shoe heaven.

Afterwards we went to one of Nidhi's favorite restaurants, Drift. I had a delicious Penang curry. Yummm. I am definitely not losing weight on this trip.

Not sure why, but there are fireworks going off in Gurgaon right now as I finish writing this. Maybe they are confused. The party is over here, people!
