Create your own adventure

Ravi and my waiter were MIA today. Sad face. My room was cleaned and pristine, but not the same. No one asked me how my day was. No one left me salted almonds and a note. Totally bogus.

Similarly, the breakfast service was fine. A very lovely gentleman was my server. He seemed quite happy and was extremely helpful. It must have been my missing waiter that made the experience less of a pleasurable one. I didn't have any splenda, my utensils were missing, and I had to order my own aloo paratha. The horror!

I can't believe Ravi and my waiter have the day off on the same day! I've become too spoiled for them to leave me now.

Well, the morning paper officially gave evidence that there was in fact an earthquake with tremors felt in the Delhi area. Despite not feeling a thing, I have to grudgingly admit that Samira was correct.

On top of Ravi and my waiter being mia, I had silent driver again today. He definitely takes a route to work where there is more traffic. Two days in a row we've been completely stopped and someone has come up to the window to try and sell me a window shade. He yelled something incomprehensible, stood there staring at my for an awkward few moments, then I waived him away and that was that. I wonder if people actually buy those things?

I feel the need to talk about the driving here today. It's just so bizarre. For instance, if the driver is stuck in traffic and can't find a crevice to nudge the car into, they just make a new path ouf of the dirt median or something. Bike (motorcycle) riders have it so much easier, because they really can make up their own route. We definitely went the "create your own adventure" route today and made up our own lanes. Oh! I also really love it when people just stop their cars and park in the middle of the road. Oh, you were done driving? You needed a break? Cool. Get the eff out of the road or else we'll have to honk at you for a good thirty seconds and then make a special new lane around you.

Final observation of the day: I find it hysterical that men pee out in the open here. I don't understand it. Are they just walking to work or wherever and just thinking, "man, i really need to pee. May as well go into this open field surrounded by traffic, business, and pedestrians to relieve myself. I'll just turn my back to the largest group to maintain my modesty." Please. I really don't need to see that.

Moving on.

Work today was good, but it felt like it would never end. And then when it did end, it felt like it went by too fast. I went to Punjabi by Nature with Savs today, which was exciting! Other than that, I mostly just met with staff, spoke with the mangers, and worked on design projects. Super boring.

I meant to go home on time. I've been so exhausted by this weirdo schedule since I've been here. Right when I was planning to leave, Adi and Aasthaa asked me if I wanted to go to "happy hour" (I had to explain to them that 8:30 p.m. is no longer happy hour). I couldn't resist. I mean, how often do I get to grab drinks with them? I couldn't pass up the chance! I suppose I'll get some sleep when I'm back in the states.

Before turning in for the night I FaceTimed with my parents. Not as hilarious as the "Alice-eating-the-phone" FaceTime experience on Sunday, but still entertaining. My dad showed me his knee at one point. Still not entirely sure why. I think he was jealous that I was showing them around my hotel room and they had nothing to show me.

Never a dull day.
